This newsletter is written in order to spread experiences within the topic of ”historic textiles”. Our ambition is to amuse you and stimulate interest in the 18th Century. As permanent writers you will find Martin Ciszuk, MA in textile history, Laila Durán and Maria Fernström, who all work for the Durán Textiles AB company. We will also have help from colleagues and specialists from several museums and universities. This newsletter will be distributed ten times a year and is free of charge. We hope you will enjoy our articles and offers and help us to spread the letter to friends and colleagues.

One year passed …

During the year of 2007 Duran Textiles AB has fortunately established cooperation with several Swedish museums and collections of textiles.

Historic collection
We expanded our production of finished products as fabric bags, handbags, toilet sets and quilted blankets. These products have become immensely popular and are now sold in museum shops and souvenir boutiques all over Scandinavia, They are easier to store and sell in a small shop compared to the fabric by metre. All products are labelled with information about the history and origin of the fabric.

New cotton prints
Two women’s short gown, originally from Kallfors manor, Södermanland, Sweden, were documented from a private collection. The brown and white cotton print from the first short gown generated the design Pumpa, printed in two variants: the original size in brown, red and black; and a smaller size, fitting for the bags and toilet sets we have designed. The lining in this short gown, another cotton print on blue ground, was reproduced as Rosita. This fabric was put on the market in cooperation with the Swedish cultural newsletter “Vi”. Ett år har gått …

Duran Textiles AB har under 2007 framgångsrikt samarbetat med flera museer och samlingar i Sverige.

Nya produkter
Vi har utökat produktionen av produkter som väskor, necessärer, sminkväskor, bärkassar och täcken. Dessa har blivit mycket populära och har sålts i museibutiker och presentshoppar landet runt, eftersom de är lättare att lagra och sälja än metervaran. Alla produkter förses med en etikett som berättar om tygets ursprung.

Nya kattuner
Från en privat samling dokumenterade vi två koftor, ursprungligen från Kallfors gård i Järna, Södermanland. Det brun-vita kattuntrycket från den ena koftan blev mönstret Pumpa, som vi trycker i två varianter: en originalstorlek i svart, brunt och rött och en något förminskad rapport i rött och svart som passar till de produkter vi tagit fram. Dorotea

The original is an apron originating from Långserud parish, Värmland (in the western part of Sweden) now in the collection of Värmland’s Museum, Karlstad (inv.nr: VM 6608). The apron is made from fine, open cotton tabby with stripes of denser warps and inlaid pattern wefts of thicker cotton thread, white on white. In the Swedish 18th century written sources this type of fabric is named: broscherad kammarduk - brocaded cambric, and was a product of the early handloom factories. Similar fabrics are ...

Dorotea

Originalet är ett förkläde från Långserud socken, nu i Värmlands Museum, Karlstad (inv.nr: VM 6608). Förklädet är sytt av ett tunt och glest tuskaftat bomullstyg med tätränder i varpen och inlagda tjockare mönsterinslag, vitt i vitt.
