This newsletter is written in order to spread experiences within the topic of ”historic textiles”. Our ambition is to amuse you and stimulate interest in the 18th Century. As permanent writers you will find Martin Ciszuk, MA in textile history and Laila Durán, who all work for the Durán Textiles AB company. We will also have help from colleagues and specialists from several museums and universities. This newsletter will be distributed ten times a year and is free of charge. We hope you will enjoy our articles and offers and help us to spread the letter to friends and colleagues.

Flora - a silk damask of Chinese origin.

When Durán Textiles searched for fabrics to reproduce for our first collection of historic silks my attention was paid to a man’s waistcoat in blue silk damask. It is dated to the 1770-ies and was preserved at Herrborum manor in Södemanland, central Sweden. The same silk damask, but in green colour, was used in a lady’s jacket in the collection of the county museum of Gotland, Fornsalen in Visby. Furthermore I detected the fabric used as green bed hangings in the royal bedchamber of King Karl XIV Johan, originally at Stockholm castle, but now in Rosendal castle, also in Stockholm. Flora - en kinesisk sidendamast.

När Durán Textiles sökte efter tyger att reproducera till vår första sidenkollektion fick jag upp ögonen för en blå herrväst i sidendamast från 1770-talet från Herrborums slott i Södemanland. Samma sidendamast, fast grön, var använd i en kofta i Länsmuseet på Gotlands samlingar i Fornsalen, Visby. Dessutom upptäckte jag tyget som gröna sängomhängen i Karl XIV Johans sängkammare, ursprungligen uppsatta på Stockholms slott men nu på Rosendals slott, Stockholm. Till min stora förvåning visade mig en dag en kollega en klänning...

- en resa i tiden med hjälp av tyg.

Vackra och intressanta mönster på tyg har genom tiderna fungerat som en inspirationskälla för den som använder sig av tyger i sitt skapande. Många av mina verk har vuxit fram med utgångspunkt i ett par tyger som med sina mönster och färger har utmanat min fantasi och mina färdigheter.

I och med mitt egna och nära förhållande till tyger med ursprung Skandinavien har jag funnit det förvånansvärt att det svenska och nordiska kulturarvet i form av klassiska tygmönster från tiden före vår tid, varken har uppmärksammats...
