This newsletter is written in order to spread experiences within the topic of ”historic textiles”. Our ambition is to amuse you and stimulate interest in the 18th Century. As permanent writers you will find Martin Ciszuk, MA in textile history and Laila Durán, who all work for the Durán Textiles AB company. We will also have help from colleagues and specialists from several museums and universities. This newsletter will be distributed ten times a year and is free of charge. We hope you will enjoy our articles and offers and help us to spread the letter to friends and colleagues.

Gustav, a 17th Century Golden design.

In spring 2010 Durán Textiles made products for the museum shop of Livrustkammaren modeled on textiles in the collection of the Royal Armory of Stockholm.

A folklore costume with a silk waistcoat.

In connection to the release of the book Scandinavian Folklore I wanted to make myself a Swedish folk costume. Because my ancestors mainly origin from the Mälar valley in central Sweden, where specific regional costume was never developed, I decided to make a costume based on folk-fashion from the mid-19th century. The model I used is a complete costume that was found in the 1980ies on the attic of a farm house in Södra Höga, Viby parish outside Örebro. En folklig dräkt med sidenväst.

I samband med utgivningen av boken Scandinavian Folklore sydde jag upp en folklig dräkt. Eftersom större delen av min släkt härstammar från Mälardalen, där särpräglade lokala folkdräkter saknas, valde jag att göra en folklig modedräkt från mitten av 1800-talet. Förebilden är en komplett dräkt som hittades på 1980-talet på vinden i Södra Höga gård i Viby socken utanför Örebro. Liksom Mälardalen är Närkeslätten ett område där modeströmningar från städerna och kontinenten snabbt togs upp av landsbygdsbefolkningen, som skapade en folklig variant ...

Visit Vallby open air museum!

Vallby Friluftsmuseum, an open air museum outside Västerås in central Sweden was founded 1921 and now celebrates its 90-year jubilee. The museum contains about 40 houses which are moved in from the region. Among others, there is both a charming big farm and a small crofters holding including animals and plantations. There is a cabbage bed, hops on stakes, fields and meadows. In the poultry-house there are geese and hens, in the pasturelands cows and sheep are grazing and there are also some happy pigs ...

Besök Vallby Friluftsmuseum!

Vallby Friluftsmuseum utanför Västerås i Västmanland grundades 1921 och firar nu 90-års jubileum. Museet som består av ett 40-tal byggnader inflyttade från regionen, innehåller bl. a. av en stor vacker bondgård och torparmiljö med djur och odlingar. Här finns kålgård, humlegård, åkrar och ängar.
