This newsletter is written in order to spread experiences within the topic of ”historic textiles”. Our ambition is to amuse you and stimulate interest in the 18th Century. As permanent writers you will find Martin Ciszuk, MA in textile history, Laila Durán and Maria Fernström, who all work for the Durán Textiles AB company. We will also have help from colleagues and specialists from several museums and universities. This newsletter will be distributed ten times a year and is free of charge. We hope you will enjoy our articles and offers and help us to spread the letter to friends and colleagues.

Detta nyhetsbrev skrivs för att sprida erfarenheter inom ämnet ”historiska textiler” och 1700-talet. Ambitionen är att roa och stimulera intresset. Vi som skriver är Martin Ciszuk Fil.mag textilvetenskap, Laila Durán och Anna Löfgren, samtliga verksamma inom Durán Textiles AB. A woman’s short gown from Visby, Sweden
There are numerous 18th century textiles preserved in Sweden. Durán Textiles AB cooperate with several Swedish museums to reproduce textiles from their collections. When possible we also make documentation of the items the the fabric vere used for. This could give a deepened knowledge about the function, origin and dating of the reproduced textiles. The Original for our popular cotton print Anemon is taken from a 18th century short gown in the collections of the county museum of Gotland, Visby, Sweden. The inventory number 28 indicate that this piece of clothing was one of the first items that reached the museum when collection begun at 1875. No records are made in the catalogue about the donor or the history of the short gown, but certainly it origins from Gotland. Probably it was given to the museum by one of the wealthy families in Visby, who are mentioned as donators of other textiles to the collection.

Koftan från Visby
Många svenska textilsamlingar innehåller textiler från 1700-talet. Durán Textiles AB samarbetar med flera museer och reproducerar tyger ur deras samlingar. När tillfälle ges dokumenterar vi även de plagg som tygerna är använda till. Detta kan ge fördjupade kunskaper om tygernas funktion ursprung och datering. Originalet till det populära trycket Anemon kommer från en 1700-talskofta som finns i Länsmuseet på Gotlands samlingar i Visby. Den har inventarienummer 28. Det låga numret tyder på att koftan kommit till samlingarna snart efter 1875, då man började började insamlingen av föremål. Ingenting finns noterat i museets katalog om plaggets historia och hur och varifrån kommit till museet. Koftan kommer säkert från Gotland, och det är sannolikt att den donerats av någon av de förmögna familjer i Visby som nämns som donatorer av andra plagg.
